FOTD + OOTD: Girl my body don't lie, I'm outta my mind, let it rain over me

My first day of Uni was on September 1st so this post is a little late but it's better late than never, don't you think? Oh and I'm not that pale in person, I blame the flash and the stupid cloudy weather we've had lately! Maybe it's time to fake tan?

However, I hope it's understandable that I can't simply throw away the products I have previously purchased that have unfortunately been tested on animals - believe me, I wouldn't hesitate if I were rich! My goal is to use up those products but not repurchase them in the future. Also, Gaby's Beauty Blog will no longer accept for review purposes products that have been tested on animals.

☑ 100% Pure Body Cream (samples) review

The first thing that struck me with this body cream was the scent. My favorite by far was Green Apple - yum! They all smell amazing - and I'm not talking about that cheap chemical scent! I wish the scent would last longer on the skin but this body cream is still a pleasure to use regardless. As for the texture, it's just what I was expecting for a body cream: deliciously rich, non greasy and fast absorbing. There is a wide variety of scents available and they are all vegan, except Honey Almond, which is vegetarian.

Repurchase: yes!

What I'm currently using to replace it: Jergens Naturals Aloe Soothing Body Moisturiser with Cucumber

☑ LaRocca Skincare 24k C-Gold Gel (sample) review

Can you believe this product costs $143 for 1oz? Crazy right? I didn't notice any improvment regarding the clarifying, brightening and firming of the skin. Maybe I'm too young for this? But one thing I can tell for sure is that this gel is really moisturizing, and it leaves my skin sooooo soft and smooth! I couldn't stop touching my face after applying it! As it's a gel, the texture is light, but I still think it's a little heavy for a gel - it takes some times for the product to be absorbed into the skin. It doesn't feel greasy though.

Repurchase: no

What I'm currently using to replace it: Antipodes Joyous Protein-Rich Night Replenish Serum

☑ Clarins Toning Lotion Alcohol-Free with Camomille (sample)

I bought this for $5 on a whim at the first Clarins warehouse sale I attended... $5 for a sample size they aren't even allowed to sale... I think it was the first warehouse sale I ever attended but since thne, trust me I've learned what it worth it and what is not worth it. I don't think this product is worth the price, as a toner is a toner, right?

How cute is the packaging?

Ever since I tried 100% Pure Body Creams, I got hooked, so when the lovely Lin reached out to me with the opportunity to send me a few samples, I couldn't be happier! I was very curious about their makeup products containing fruit pigments instead of harsh chemical pigments so Lin very kindly sent a few of them my way and after having played with them for around three weeks, I can honestly say I'm very pleased with them!

Fruit Pigmented Pot Rouge Blush in Rosy ($20.00 for 0.12 oz / 3.5 g)
This satin silky rouge for your cheeks to give you that healthy flush for color. It can be worn on bare skin or on top of foundation, extremely blendable. Colored with 100% Pure's patent-pending fruit pigmented technology.100% Natural formula is free of chemical preservatives, artificial fragrances, synthetic chemicals and are colored with the pigments from antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables.
My first impression of this product was that the jar is very small for the price, but don't let this fool you - I quickly realized that it will last a long time because of its intense pigmentation, meaning that you really don't need a lot of product to achieve a natural flush of color.

Rosy is the perfect pink coral for my fair skintone and the texture is asbolutely perfect! It glides on so well, it is very satiny and it is easily blendable and buildable.

I like the packaging - a cute little glass jar - but I'm not sure it's the most appropriate packaging for a blush. I prefer to apply cream blushes with a duo fibre brush rather than with my fingers but because of the packaging, you will have to dig your fingers in it, which is not really hygienic.

Fruit Pigmented Blush in Peppermint Candy ($32.00 for 9 g / .32 oz)
This fruit pigmented Peppermint Blush to make you sparkle and shine! This blush is colored with the antioxidant and vitamin rich fruit pigments instead of minerals or synthetic dyes.
Despite its name, when I first opened this blush, I was surprised by the intense peppermint smell - I have never used a scented blush before! I quite like it though, it's like a nice little surprise everytime I use it. The smell doesn't linger on the skin though, which I'm not sure if it is a good or bad thing?

Peppermint Candy is described as a shimmery pink which scared me a little because I'm not a fan of shimmery blushes - they can easily look glittery and not natural at all - but this one is just perfect! It gives me a pretty glow and you have to look closely to really notice the shimmers.

I was a tad disappointed at the pigmentation of its blush because I'm relatively pale and I find I have to apply it with a very heavy hand for the color to properly show, but it's not a deal breaker because the color is definitely pretty and a great match for my skintone.

Cocoa Pigmented Bronzer in Brown Sugar ($32.00 for 9 g/ .32 oz)
100% Natural bronzer will give you a warm, beautiful, sun kissed glow instantly from pigments of cocoa, coffee, tomato and berries. Luminescent, light reflective pigments will give you a subtle shimmer. Concentrated with anti-aging vitamins, antioxidants and skin nourishing ingredients. Use all over your face and body whenever you desire a sun kissed look.
After my experience with the Peppermint Candy blush, and because the main ingredient in this bronzer is cocoa, I was expecting it to smell at least a little chocolatey, but it didn't, and even if it may seem silly, I must say I was slightly disappointed... I told you it was silly!

Brown Sugar is a golden brown shade that is pretty pigmented, but nothing over the top, even on my fair skintone.

Even though it is claimed that "luminescent, light reflective pigments will give you a subtle shimmer", you have to look closely at the bronzer in the pan to notice some slight shimmers, but once swatched or applied on the skin, it goes on matte. It does contain mica, which is a natural mineral shimmer, but I would say it's a matte bronzer. What is strange is that it still infuses a nice glow to my face... I guess I won't complain?

To be honest, Brown Sugar has quickly became one of my favorite bronzer, especially for contouring.

Both the Fruit Pigmented Blush and the Cocoa Pigmented Bronzer come in the same packaging - a lightweight metal tin with a detachable embossed lid and a large mirror on the inside - but I'm not sure I really like it. It is very pretty but I would be afraid to keep those products in my handbag because they could slide open and the lid could crack. I do really like the big mirror though!

The blush and the bronzer have a great texture, they go on very well, they are not chalky at all and they stay on all day.

L - R: Brown Sugar, Peppermint Candy, Rosy

I'm very impressed with 100% Pure makeup products and I would definitely recommend them. Be sure to have a look at their website for other 100% pure goodies!

☑ Marcelle Essentials Soothing Gel Eye Make-Up Remover review

As I said in my review, this is the first gel makeup remover I have used, and as good as it is (non-oily or greasy and doesn't leave residues behind), I hate that it stinks so bad if you happen to get some products in your eyes! I think it is very strange for a product that claims to be soothing...

What I'm currently using to replace it: OLAY Regenerist Advanced Anti-Aging Eye Makeup Remover + Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

☑ Cranberry & Pear Bath Soak

I had three of this thing if I remember well, and I'm glad I have finally used them all up! This does nothing at all for my skin ):

Repurchase: no

What I'm currently using to replace it: Radox Herbal Bath Salts Vapour Therapy

☑ EOS Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream Pomegranate Raspberry

Personally, I like a very thick shave cream, and this one is super runny and light, I had to keep reapplying some product. It's a real mess to use!

Repurchase: no

What I'm currently using to replace it: random bar of soap or shower gel

☑ Mary Kay Signature Lip Gloss in Pink Diamonds review

I like this, it's not very pigmented but it's very glossy and pretty without being too sparkly. Because of its small size, I liked to keep it in my handbag. It's a little pricey ($13), but I would recommend it anyway.

Repurchase: yes

What I'm currently using to replace it: Annabelle Le Juice Juicy Lip Shine in Strawberry Soufflé

☑ Juara Sweet Black Tea & Rice Facial Moisturizer (sample)

I've had two of these samples in my handbag for some times and I don't really know what to say about them because I didn't use them on a daily basis. It didn't seem really moisturizing on my dry skin though.

Repurchase: at $48, no thanks!

What I'm currently using to replace it: Marcelle Hydra-C 24H Moisturizing Gel Cream for dry skin

What I'm currently using to replace it: Biotherm Sun After Oligo-Thermal Sparkle Cream

☑ Nexxus Therappe Luxurious Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner (89 mL)

I never really know what to say about a shampoo or conditioner, that's why I don't write reviews of this type of product. These are supposed to "provide nourishing moisture, leaving hair luxuriously soft, manageable and full of lustre". I'm not sure I can agree as I didn't notice my haire being especially shiny or healthy-looking after use, but I guess they did their job.

Owned and operated on home soil, eBeauty offers an extensive assortment of bath, body, and beauty products available to Canadian shoppers. With over 300 brands and new arrivals added daily, you'll be able to find all of your favourite products, all of your can't-live-without-must-haves, as well as discover a wide selection of new and exciting products available as soon as they hit the market.
eBeauty. Beauty for everyone.

I was recently approached by Katie from eBeauty.ca, Canada's new online destination for everything beauty. They carry more brands than Sephora (300+ brands, 7 500+ products - new additions daily!) and shipping is always free on order of $75 or more (they often have promos where they offer free shipping free shipping over orders of $25). I recently saw ads for this website in magazines and on the internet, and I thought it looked interesting.

Vivaderm Daily Cream ($17.95 for 200ml)
A luxurious daily cream that works to maintain soft, supple, healthy-looking skin.
Best for people with exceptionally dry skin, including those prone to developing patches of eczema and dermatitis.
Formulated with a special blend of three herbal extracts traditional used for skin care, this nourishing cream includes calendula, witch hazel, and butcher's broom. Together with rich emollients they help soothe the skin and keep it touchably soft, dramatically reducing flaking and itching.

I'm not going to lie: this is the product I was the most excited to try. I have came across only a minority of  great moisturizers that could really relieve the itchiness on my skin caused by eczema, so I'm always on the hunt for some others, and I was not disappointed with this one!

For a cream, I think the texture is more on the light side (I was expecting it to be thicker) but it's not milky or runny. I usually tend to rely on thicker creams because I feel lighter ones are not moisturizing enough, but I was happily surprised with this one.

Vivaderm Daily Cream is almost instantly absorbed in my skin as soon as I apply it, calming the itching immediately and leaving it soothed and smooth - what a relief! It is also non greasy and lightweight, and the scent is natural and pleasant.

I think the price is very reasonable for 200ml, especially since I don't use this product all over my body, but only on the areas that are prone to eczema and dry patches.

As soon as my skin becomes dry and itchy, I reach for my trusty tube of Vivaderm Daily Cream - not to mention that the tube is very handy to carry around in my handbag.

A luxurious body cream that hydrates and softens the skin while leaving it beautifully scented.
This powerful concentrated blend of vitamins, antioxidants, fruit oils, and cocoa and avocado butters work together to deeply nourish the skin while increasing elasticity and protecting the skin against free radicals and environmental damage. Deliciously scented, your skin will be left healthier-looking and glowing. Free of artificial fragrances, synthetic chemicals, toxic preservatives, or other unsafe ingredients, this body cream is safe for use on all skin types.

The first thing that struck me with this body cream was the scent. I was sent a variety of samples to try and my favorite by far was Green Apple - yum! They all smell amazing - and I'm not talking about that cheap chemical scent! I wish the scent would last longer on the skin but this body cream is still a pleasure to use regardless.

As for the texture, it's just what I was expecting for a body cream: deliciously rich, non greasy and fast absorbing.

Available scents (all vegan, except Honey Almond, which is vegetarian):

  • Green Apple
  • Honey Almond
  • Blood Orange
  • Cabernet Grape
  • Coconut
  • Eucalyptus
  • French Lavender
  • Mangosteen
  • Meyer Lemon
  • Pink Grapefruit
  • Pomegranate
  • Raspberry
  • Strawberry
  • White Peach

A multi-tasking gel that smooths and protects your complexion.
This lightweight formula nourishes sun-damaged skin. It works to clarify, brighten, and firm skin with intense moisture while reducing the appearance of imperfections.

Maybe it's a little too soon to tell (I've been using this product for around two weeks) but I didn't notice any improvment regarding the clarifying, brightening and firming of the skin.

If you look closely at the pictures above, you will notice gold sparkles in the gel but don't worry, you won't end up looking like a disco ball after applying this product! In fact, the particles are barely noticeable, and they will give your face an healthy glow at the most.

Of course, the price is a little steep...

h.wood.beauty Lip Shine in Plum ($22.00 for 0.42oz / 12g)
A gorgeous, ultra-nourishing gloss that leaves lips with an alluring shine and sheer hue.
This moisturizing formula is infused with jojoba oil and cocoa butter to sooth and protect your pout with a hint of colour. Your lips are kept undeniably supple with mango butter, avocado oil, and shea butter while grapeseed oil delivers powerful antioxidants.

First of all, this product is called a lip shine, but it's actually more on the matte side, and it's far from glossy, as claimed. It doesn't feel moisturizing at all and the product seems to be quickly absorbed into the lips, so I have to keep reapplying it through the day.

As for the color, don't be fooled by the swatch on the website (when Plum is pictured as a deep red, almost brown). In fact, even the darkest color (which is this one) is sheer, except that it settles into the fine lines of the lips. Because of that, it tends to make my lips look even drier, which is a little strange of a product that is claimed to be moisturizing

I would absolutely not recommend this product, as it did absolutely nothing from my lips except maybe make them look even worst! For $22, it is extremely disappointing.

Available shades:

  • Plum (sheer deep brick red)
  • Poppy (shimmering golden pink)
  • Rose (sheer, dusty pink)
  • Ruby (sheer bright red)
  • Sheer (transparent)

Stila Eye Shadow in Kitten ($27.00 for 0.9oz / 2.6g)
Stila's best-selling eye shadow pans, encased in a sleek aluminum compact.
There is something for everyone. Ten award-winning shades that include everything from classic neutrals to the hippest, trend-setting shades in both mattes and shimmers.

Kitten is a very pretty shimmery champagne shade, but I was disappointed at how sheer it is once applied. I bet it would make a great highlight shade though.

It glides really well on the lids, just like butter, with no fallout.

Available shades:

  • Poppy
  • Kitten
  • Espresso
  • Mimosa
  • Oasis
  • Prize
  • Starlight
  • Sparkle
  • Sun
  • Wheat
