Guest Post: BH Cosmetics 88 Color Cool Matte Palette

This post was written by Taygan from Montser Girl

Your eyes are radiant masterpieces. They deserve this classic palette's bold strokes of beauty. Buttercup yellows and rich reds, velvety lake blues and dramatic leaf greens highlight gorgeous eyes. Luminous golds, classy bronzes, and yummy plum colors make a fun fashion statement. Sassy turquoises and light mint greens bring glamour to another level. Girl, you've got it going on!

I recently had the opportunity to review BH Cosmetics 88 Color Cool Matte Palette which was wonderful because I haven’t tested out any of their products yet and have read quite a few reviews on these.

When I received my package everything was wrapped up very securely in a mesh kind of paper with tissue paper and the palette is in a box wrapped in plastic wrap to protect from scratches.

When I first opened this I was so shocked at the size! When you hear 88 color palette I automatically thought it would be pretty bulky! It wasn’t, it is a very nice size. I always like things to be a little bit slimmer or smaller so they are easy to travel with or store.

My monster is taller than the palette itself! Very convenient size. The exact case size is 9" x 6.5". It's very slim as well!

There was one color out of the palette but it was still in its pan so I can just use a little glue to put it back in place. Other than that everything was in good shape! I might have cared if this was a crazy expensive palette but it wasn’t so its not a big deal.

All of the swatches are taken from left to right going vertical down the palette and they are taken in natural day light with no primer on the skin. I never realised how hard it was to get all the swatches the same size so they might look a bit off in each picture =/

My over all experience with the palette was fairly positive. This isn’t going to beat any high end brand palette but I do think this is such a great palette if you are looking for some fun bright colors to add to your collection. I like the size of each color as well since I wouldn’t use the bold colors as often then nothing will go to waste.

I disliked the sponge applicators that came with the set (2 of them). I think they could upgrade those for a small eye shadow brush to make it a little bit better. As well the packaging is nice but the glossy looking finish of the palette is covered in finger prints as soon as you touch it, it drives me nuts! I think maybe a more matte looking black would stay cleaner.

I would recommend this palette to anyone beginning in makeup or someone who just wants to add more colors to their looks! At $18.95 (currently on sale for $15.16), the price is very affordable. The more vibrant colors were actually more pigmented than I had expected them to be. I do wish some of the other colors were more pigmented then they turned out to be but I do think primer will help with that. As well you could always use a little bit of water to make the colors more vibrant.

If you are mainly a high end makeup user then this might not be for you. But I will definitely be using this palette when I am feeling more bold with my makeup!

You can purchase the 88 Color Cool Matte Palette on sale for $15.16 here. Be sure to "like" BH Cosmetics on Facebook, follow them on Twitter and subscribe to their YouTube channel.

Look at all that bubble wrap!

 Finally, the palette itself!

At the thought of 88 eyeshadows, I thought the palette would be huge, but it's actually very sleek and slim.

Swatches, from the first row to the last one (with flash):

Last row

Pros:
  • sleek case
  • inexpensive
  • huge selection of colors
  • very wearable neutral shades
  • some are heavily pigmented

Cons:
  • too many white eyeshadows
  • the matte shades tend to be quite chalky
  • most of the eyeshadows are not enough pigmented

What I think:

At first, I wasn't sure what to expect from a 88 eyeshadow palette. I thought it would be cheap, and that the eyeshadows would be chalky, but I must say I'm quite surprised. Sure, this palette is not the top quality, but I've discovered some nice shades that I definitely can see myself using over and over again. Just look at the last row.

The case is nice, too, with its big mirror and its two sponge applicator (hey, I do like sponge applicators, OK?). It doesn't feel too cheap, expect that it's full of finger prints after you touch it.

The main problem I have with this palette (and with many palettes) is the amount of highlight shades. Come one, do I really need that much in a palette? Half of the palette is occupied by a variation of totally useless and chalky white shades: light grey, beige, blue-white, light blue, light green, etc. If I wanted that much highlight colors, I would have ordered an highlight palette!

Overall, this is a great palette for the price if you are a neutral shades lover like me, and if you don't mind the ridiculous amount of highlight colors, of course.

Recommend? yes

I would definitely recommend checking out the wide variety of products on KKCenterHK, and if you are interested, they also carry false lashes (see my review on some here), wigs, hair extensions and even well-known brands such as Essie and OPI at such cheap prices!

88 Color Earth Tone EyeShadow Professional Palette from KKCenterHK: I was given the opportunity to review more products from this website, and I was curious about this palette, as I'm a fan of neutral shades. I was so excited to try it that I have already took some pictures of the swatches. Stay tuned for my review!

Vichy Normaderm 7-Day Challenge samples: Some times ago, I ordered my samples from Vichy Normaderm Facebook page, but something went wrong and I thought I would never receive them. I'm glad I got them! They included 7 samples, but it's been three days since I've started using this moisturizer and I'm still at the first one.
